What is the Rim Energy Agora?
The Rim Energy Agora is an international conference organized by Rim Intelligence, which has been providing price information and the latest updates on energy markets—including crude oil, petroleum products, bunker fuel, and gas—since 1984.
Now in its second year following last year’s inaugural event, the conference will feature keynote speeches and panel discussions across six key areas: energy markets, transportation fuels, gas fuels, next‑generation power sources, petrochemicals, and decarbonization.
In addition, we will host luncheon meetings and a cocktail reception, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with speakers and exhibiting companies. This event provides an ideal setting for networking within the energy industry.
Admission to the Rim Energy Agora is ticketed. Details on registration and exhibitor applications will be announced later.
Message
Attacks by the US and Israel on Iran and the virtual closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran in retaliation have shaken the world. Crude oil prices have surged, and concerns about supply disruptions have rapidly heightened. In response, various Asian countries including China and South Korea have imposed export restrictions on petroleum products and implemented measures to curb domestic prices, with the entire region working to deal with the tightening supply/demand situation.
However, the concerns do not end there. The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, and it is difficult to predict the direction of US President Trump’s policies. The international community remains in a state of uncertainty. This situation strongly reminds us of the importance of securing stable energy supply and ensuring transparency in trading markets.
In 2026, the energy industry is facing a more significant turning point than ever before. In Japan, with subsidies for petroleum products being gradually reduced, the government has hastily reinstated mitigation measures in response to the recent surge in crude prices, working to curb market turmoil. In April, efforts will begin towards the full-scale launch of GX-ETS trading, and market players are paying attention to this new framework in which market mechanisms support corporate decarbonization. Moreover, the petrochemical industry is undergoing restructuring in Japan and South Korea, redefining the industrial structure of Asia. The adoption of next-generation fuels such as bio-gasoline, SAF, biodiesel, and bio-bunkers is also accelerating.
Under these, circumstances, the theme of the second Rim Energy Agora is “Charting the Future of the Energy Industry.” The future map serves as a guidepost leading from the present to the future, and also as a compass pointing the way forward. We hope the Agora will provide insights for everyone involved in the energy industry to decipher complex changes and plan the next steps.
Rim Intelligence will continue to contribute to market transparency through fair price assessments. At the same time, we provide the Agora – a forum where energy players from Japan and around the world gather to share technology and insights while envisioning the future of energy. Together with you, we aim to chart the course for tomorrow.
